Olde Town

Just a few minute drives from the Augusta National takes you to this leafy neighborhood laid back neighborhood that was already established way before the Civil War. The homes were from the early 1800s to the 1930s. Olde Towne or “Pinched Gut” as some call it is a historic district. The name derives from the corseted ladies’ fashion from the 19th century and from the drought period after the Savannah River flood destruction.

In 1916 a neighborhood fire led some residents to leave and reconstruct on “The Hill” which is the Summerville located just the southern part where the Masters’ fold tournament held. Many of the old architectural structures survive in one of the best places in the South. The neighborhood features different building styles from Federal to Craftsman which is perfect for driving or walking tours. Broad and Greene’s Streets have wide parks- like great for a quick walking or running trip and one of the city’s finest restaurants which is the La Maison on Telfair can be found around the area.
