The homes were from the early 1800s to the 1930s. Olde Towne or “Pinched Gut” as some call it is a historic district. The name derives from the corseted ladies’ fashion from the 19th century and from the drought period after the Savannah River flood destruction.
In 1916 a neighborhood fire led some residents to leave and reconstruct on “The Hill” which is the Summerville located just the southern part where the Masters’ fold tournament held.
